Tanzania: JKT Youths Target Skilled Employment

Tanga — TANGA Regional Commissioner, Ms Chiku Gallawa, has urged communities in the region to enlist the services of youths from National Service camps in order to tap their potential for work in economic development programmes.
She said that youths from National service camps are resourceful and have potential for hard work; therefore they should be engaged in economic development matters. The regional commissioner gave the call at the weekend when addressing youths at a pass out parade involving 851 National Service volunteers, at KJ 835 Mgambo Camp in Handeni District.
She directed the district commissioners to come up with better plans on how best to use the youths in development projects in their respective districts, so that the training they have acquired would benefit communities in their localities.
"We need to benefit from the skills they got in the National Service training camps. We know that they learnt many things which can help communities to combat poverty if they are well engaged in economic development activities," she said.
The RC asked the youths to become good citizens and show high esteem and patriotism for their nation at all times. This will enable the government and society generally to feel the importance of National Service training. Briefing the regional commissioner about the training which was christened:
"Census Intake of 2012" the commander of Mgambo national service camp, Major Mohamed Mketto, said that the youths underwent intensive training for six months. According to Major Mketto, the youths are ready to serve their nation and communities in their areas.
He further said that during the six months of training the youths were exposed to the rudiments of economic production activities in order to enable them create their own income generating projects in future. The effort would enable them to combat poverty.
On their speech read to the regional commissioner, the youths thanked the government for their training opportunity. But they asked for establishment of small scale industries in various areas so that they could start self-help projects that are equipped with good equipment.
