Tanzania: Rorya Unfaithful CCM Leaders Warned
Rorya — TOP CCM leaders in Rorya District have strongly warned unfaithful leaders taking sides with suspected criminals.
The warning was issued by CCM National Executive Committee Member (NEC) for Rorya District, Mr Thobias Rayah and the district's CCM chairperson, Mr Samweli Keboye at a rally held at Buganjo village in Bukwe Ward on Monday.
The leaders warned strongly that they were not going to take sides or tolerate any leader of the ruling political party accused of backing suspected criminals here.
The leaders were reacting to accusations heaped by several villagers against Bukwe ward senior CCM leaders allegedly for fovours and support given to suspected thieves. "We can't continue having leaders who are favouring, harbouring or backing thieves within CCM.
It must end up amicably," Rorya District CCM Chairman, Mr Keboye popularly known as "No 3" warned at a rally held at the village. He said the duty of CCM leaders was to ensure that CCM manifesto was honoured and executed properly in a bid to improve the welfare of people.
"There is no room for people who put on green clothes (CCM uniform) to favour thieves," Mr Keboye told the public rally. There were reports that many villagers mainly youths were threatening to surrender their CCM membership cards and defect to CHADEMA or CUF due to misconduct by Bukwe CCM ward leaders.
The CCM NEC member for Rorya District, Mr Rayah noted that the party cannot lose popularity because of what he described as a few dishonest leaders. "We can't lose voters simply because of few people.
I ask you to be patient as we are looking for solutions," Mr Rayah said. The CCM NEC member appealed for calm in the village. Almost the entire rally cited Bukwe ward CCM leaders as the source of insecurity and emerging clan conflicts in the village.
"CCM is losing popularity in Buganjo because of the ward CCM leaders who are supporting thieves," several speakers said. The accused ward CCM leaders (name withheld) were present but remained mum throughout the meeting.
The villagers further demanded immediate release of dozens of youths who have been arrested and taken to court allegedly for punishing suspected thieves in recent weeks.
Dozens of other youths have fled from the village in a bid to escape arrest over similar allegations. Mr Rayah promised to make a close follow up but at the same time reminded the villagers to respect the rule of law.
"We will find a solution and if necessary seek appointments with higher authorities for discussing the fate of youths who have fled so that they return to their homes to pursue development activities.
However, you should respect the rule of law," the CCM NEC member told the villagers.
