Moyes hopeful of quick Rooney return from injury
wayne Rooney could make a rapid return to the Manchester United team
against West Ham on Saturday after missing their Capital One Cup victory
over Stoke.
The striker sat out the 2-0 win with a groin strain but manager David Moyes confirmed it is not a serious problem and he could be fit to face Sam Allardyce's side. He said: "He has got a chance, yes."
United are already without Moyes' other first-choice forward, Robin van Persie, who is out for a month with a thigh problem.
Ashley Young and Patrice Evra scored second-half goals at the Britannia Stadium for United, who will now meet Sunderland in the last four.
Gus Poyet’s side beat Chelsea 2-1 on Tuesday and Moyes is adamant United will not be complacent when they face the team who prop up the Premier League.
He added: "You saw what Sunderland did: they had a really good result against Chelsea, we are going to have play well over the two legs to get to the final."
The game at the Britannia Stadium was notable for a 10-minute hold-up in the first half when referee Mark Clattenburg took the players off the pitch as hail stopped play.
Moyes said: "I have been involved in games that have been abandoned for snow but I don’t think I have ever been in a situation where we have had to come off. But I thought the referee made the right decision. He claimed he couldn’t see through the hailstones."
Stoke manager Mark Hughes agreed, saying: "From the referee’s point of view, you have to accept it. He was saying he couldn’t see. If you can’t see you can’t make decisions. I’ve not been involved in a game where you have had to come off and go back on."
