Luiz Felipe Scolari insists he feels no pressure to deliver the World
Cup next summer as he is 100 percent convinced Brazil will triumph.
Scolari, who led the country to success at the 2002 World Cup, was reinstalled as coach a year ago as Brazil go all out to claim the world title on home soil and make amends for their shock failure when last hosting the tournament in 1950.
Expectation is high but, asked about the pressure to succeed, Scolari told a news conference: “There is no pressure on Brazil. Brazil are not under pressure to be the world champions. Brazil will be the champions.
“If I did not think we could win the World Cup, I wouldn’t lead the team. I’d be sitting at home. If I came here, it’s because I’m 100 percent convinced that I will succeed.”
Scolari was speaking after his side defeated Honduras 5-0, with Bernard scoring in the first half before Dante, Maicon, Willian and Hulk added gloss to the scoreline in a 20-minute period in the second half.
“I do not think 5-0 represents the reality of the game,” Scolari admitted. “In a normal game between the two teams and the way we play, it could have been 2-0 or 3-0, but we exploited our chances. The result was good.”
Scolari also complained about the aggressive approach Honduras adopted, not least when attempting to shackle Barcelona forward Neymar.
“Honduras committed 17 fouls, and eight of them were on Neymar,” he said. “In every game, he is the player who suffers the most fouls.”
